Google is making two-factor authentication the norm in order to improve account security.
Since the launch coincides with World Password Day, the tech giant said it will allow users who have enrolled in two-step authentication to validate their enrollment, and users who have not will be automatically enrolled if their accounts are configured properly.
"You may not realize it, but passwords are the single biggest threat to your online security – they’re easy to steal, they’re hard to remember, and managing them is tedious," says Mark Risher, Google's director of product marketing, identity, and user security, in a statement about the change.
Users are encouraged to visit Google's Security Checkup site to check the state of their accounts.
